INDICATIONS
Protonix blocks the production of stomach acid. It is prescribed to heal a common condition called erosive esophagitis (an extreme inflammation of the passage on the stomach) brought on by a persistent backflow of stomach acid (gastroesophageal reflux disease). Later, it could be prescribed to maintain healing which will help prevent a relapse. It is also utilized in the treating conditions marked by constant overproduction of stomach acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Protonix is often a member from the "proton pump inhibitor" class of acid blockers.
