INDICATIONS
Albenza is really a person in the benzimidazole compounds used being a drug indicated to the treatment of a number of worm infestations. It is really a broad spectrum anthelmintic, effective against: roundworms, tapeworms, and flukes of domestic animals and humans.
As a vermicidal, albendazole causes degenerative modifications to the tegument and intestinal cells from the worm by binding on the colchicine-sensitive site of tubulin, thus inhibiting its polymerization or assembly into microtubules. The loss from the cytoplasmic microtubules leads to impaired uptake of glucose through the larval and adult stages from the susceptible parasites, and depletes their glycogen stores. Degenerative adjustments to the endoplasmic reticulum, the mitochondria from the germinal layer, and the subsequent relieve lysosomes result in decreased creation of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is the energy required to the survival of the helminth. Due to diminished energy production, the parasite is immobilized and finally dies.
